If you are setting a new CommCell environment, a primary and standby CommServe servers can be setup on the nodes while deploying the HyperScale X Appliance appliance. This setup keeps the CommServe server ready for disaster recovery by providing the ability to quickly failover to the standby server in the event of a failure in the primary CommServe.
Before You Begin
The CommServe server is kept ready for disaster recovery using the CommServe LiveSync feature. For more information on this feature, see CommServe LiveSync For High Availability Disaster Recovery.
Setup the nodes as described in one of the following pages:
After providing the network information, the CommServe Information page will be displayed.
Slide the Deploy Primary and Standby CommServe toggle key to the right to enable the option.
The CommServe Information page will be displayed:
Add the following information, depending on your environment:
For environments with no management network:
In the CommServe hostname (FQDN) box, enter a fully qualified host name for the primary CommServe server.
Under Standby CommServe Information, type the CommServe hostname (FQDN) box, enter a fully qualified host name for the standby CommServe server.
For environments with 1 GigE management network:
In the CommServe hostname (FQDN) box, enter a fully qualified host name in the 1 GigE management network for the new CommServe server.
In the CommServe 10G hostname (FQDN) box, enter a fully qualified host name in the 10 GigE data protection network for the new CommServe server.
Under Standby CommServe Information, type the CommServe hostname (FQDN) (1 GigE management network) and the CommServe 10G hostname (FQDN) (10 GigE data protection network) for the standby CommServe server.
Note: As the Management and Data Protection networks should be on 2 different subnets, the fully qualified host name for the CommServe should reflect the CommServe name in the corresponding network.
In the Password and Confirm Password boxes, enter the password for the CommServe servers.
Note: This is the 'Admin' password which will be used later to access the Command Center. The password must not contain special characters such as spaces, : (colon), = (equal to), \ (backslash), ' (single quote), and " (double quotes).
In the Windows Product Key box, enter the Windows product key provided in the package for both the primary and standby CommServe servers.
Note: Make sure to accurately type the Windows Product Key. If the key is typed with incorrect number of characters, the interface will be stuck. To overcome the issue, refresh the web browser and re-start the installation.
Repeat the steps under the Standby CommServe Information section.
The software will start the installation process.
A virtual machine will be setup as the CommServe host in one of the nodes and the MediaAgent software will be installed in the nodes . This process may take some time (approximately 45 minutes) to complete.
You can monitor the progress using the progress bar.
Caution: Do not reboot or stop the installation during this process.
The completion message will be displayed.
What to Do Next
Click the Command Center link in the completion message to launch the Command Center and complete the setup as described in New CommCells.
