The Virtual Operating Instances view of the License Summary Report lists each virtual machine (VM) that is covered by the Virtual Operating Instances license in the CommCell environment. VMs are included in the virtual operating instances calculation, regardless of the hypervisor type. VMs must have the Commvault File System package (not the File System Core package) installed to consume the VOI license.
To view this report, in the License Summary Report, in the Commvault Complete VOI Licenses table under License, click Virtual Operating Instances.
All Commvault-supported hypervisors are included in the VOI calculation. To view a complete list of supported hypervisors, see Supported Hypervisors.
For backup operations that include cluster clients, the system makes the following checks:
-
If the nodes of the cluster client are all physical machines, the system checks for the OI license.
-
If the nodes of the cluster client are all virtual machines, the system checks for the VOI or OI license.
-
If the nodes of the cluster client are mixed (some nodes are on a physical server, and some nodes are on a virtual machine), the system checks for the OI license.
Then, the cluster backup job proceeds as follows:
-
If the needed license is not present, then the cluster backup job is blocked.
-
If the needed license is present and within usage, the cluster backup job is allowed to run.
After an OI/VOI license is applied to the CommCell environment, all related jobs are removed from the capacity calculation. As a result, the License Summary report does not display any jobs for the client computers that consumed OI/VOI licenses. To view the jobs that were removed from the capacity calculation, see the Usages excluded from capacity because of OI license table or the Usages excluded from capacity because of VOI license table.
Only some of the columns appear by default. You can view any additional columns by using the Columns setting.
Virtual Operating Instances
This table lists each virtual machine that is counted in the Virtual Operating Instances license.
Column |
Description |
---|---|
Client ID |
The ID of the VM. |
Client |
The VM that is counted as a virtual operating instance. |
Tenant ID |
The ID of the tenant organization. If the VM is not part of a tenant CommCell environment, then this column contains no data. |
Tenant |
The tenant organization that owns the VM. If the VM is not part of a tenant CommCell environment, then this column contains no data. |
Plan |
The plan that is associated with the VM and the storage policy. |
Usages excluded from capacity because of VOI license
The Usages excluded from capacity because of VOI license table displays the size of jobs that run for license types, other than the capacity license, on the VM. If there are no other license types purchased, then this table appears blank.
