Getting Started with NDMP

Getting started with backing up NDMP file server data includes verifying the system requirements, adding the NAS file server, and then performing a test backup and restore.

Procedure

1. Verify that your environment meets the system requirements.

2. Verify the following about your environment:

   • Supported features

   • Vendor support by feature

   • Feature support by vendor

3. Create a Backup Plan.

   If you already have a backup plan that you can use for the file server, you can skip this step.

4. To back up NDMP file system data, you must add a NAS file server. (Because the software for the NDMP Agent is installed automatically as part of the MediaAgent installation, no additional software is needed.)

   Note

   • If you want to use IntelliSnap to back up NDMP, add a storage array when you add the NAS server.

   • If the data you want to backup resides on a Storage Virtual Machine (vFiler or Vserver), configure the Storage Virtual Machine as the NAS server.

5. Perform a test backup and restore.
