Options for Conversion to Azure Resource Manager

When you restore a VM from a different hypervisor to Azure Resource Manager, provide Azure-specific values for the restore operation.

To restore Azure Resource Manager VMs to a specific region, verify that all of the components in the setup (CommServe computer, VSA proxies) have been upgraded to Service Pack 18.

Restore Options

Destination Page

  1. Click Out of place.

  2. For Restore as, select Azure Resource Manager.

  3. For Destination, select the Azure hypervisor to the converted VM with.

    Note

    • Static IP addresses from a source VM are not replicated to the destination VM.

    • VMs are restored as managed VMs in Azure.

  4. For Access node, leave Automatic (the default value) selected, or select an access node or an access node group.

If you select Automatic, the Commvault software performs the restore using the most suitable access node from the destination hypervisor.

If you select an access node group, the Commvault software performs the restore operation using the most suitable access node that is available in the access node group.

For access node selection, the Commvault software checks for the same region. If no region match is found, then any of the available access nodes from the selected destination hypervisor or access node group is used.

  5. Click Next.

    The Virtual machines page appears.

Virtual Machines Page

  • Select the VMs to modify restore settings for, and then click Configure restore options.

The Configure restore options dialog box appears.

General Settings

  1. For VM display name, you can change the name of an individual VM by entering the new display name in the box.

  2. For Resource group, select the resource group for the restored VM.

  3. For Region, select the region for the restored VM.

  4. For Storage account, select the Azure Standard or Premium general-purpose storage account for the restored VM. You can select a different storage account for each virtual machine and disk.

The storage accounts listed are only those associated with the selected region for the restored VM.

  5. For Availability zone, leave Auto selected or select the availability zone for the restored VM.

This setting applies only to Azure managed disks. The zones listed apply only to the region that you select for the restored VM.

If you leave Auto selected, and if the feature is supported for the specified region and VM size, the VM is restored to the same availability zone as the source VM. Otherwise, it is restored without a zone (None).

  6. For Security group, select a network security group for the restored VM or leave the default value of Auto Select.

  7. For VM size, select a size for the restored VM.

Network Settings

  1. To modify the network settings, click the action button action_button, and then select Edit.

The Edit network settings dialog box appears.

  2. For Virtual network/subnet, leave Auto Selected selected or select a network and subnet.

The Configure restore options dialog box appears.

  2. For Storage type, to manage storage and costs, you can select the disk type for the Azure destination VM.

This setting applies only to Azure managed disks.

The Original option uses the same storage type as the source VM.

  3. Click Save.

Advanced Options

  1. To modify advanced options, move the Advanced options toggle key to the right.

  2. For Disk encryption type, select the type of encryption for the restored VM.

  3. For Disk encryption set, you can select a disk encryption set (DES).

If you select a DES, verify the following:

    • DES is available in the region you restore the VM to.

    • If you use a custom role to give Commvault access to your Azure resources, the role has the Microsoft.Compute/diskEncryptionSets/read resource type. All the custom roles that Commvault provides include this resource type.

      Note

      • Commvault runs the restore job even if your custom role doesn't have the Microsoft.Compute/diskEncryptionSets/read resource type.

      • If you restore a DES-encrypted VM from a snapshot, the restored VM has the same DES as the source VM.

  4. For VM tags, you can add, modify, or delete tags for the restored VM.

If the source VM has tags, those tags are displayed in the VM tags area, and you can modify or delete those tags.

You can add tags by typing them or by browsing to select the tags.
