Commvault Software is released as an Innovation Release or a Long-Term Support Release (LTS)
Release Types
Release Type | Release Frequency | Lifecycle | Updates |
---|---|---|---|
Innovation Release | Once every year | One (1) year from initial release | Monthly Innovation Update Releases for feature content. Bug fixes might release more frequently, as needed. |
Long-term Support Release (LTS) | Once every year | Three (3) years from initial release | Monthly LTS Maintenance Releases for the first two years, then as needed. LTS Maintenance Releases include only bug fixes. |
Innovation Releases
Innovation Releases are published annually in December. Designed to include all the most recent product updates, Commvault will publish Innovation Update Releases on a regular basis. New feature content releases monthly and bug fixes release as needed. Innovation Update Releases are cumulative, and you can upgrade from any release to the most recent version. Customers are strongly encouraged to install each update and have the latest update installed will be a condition for receiving support.
Access to Innovation Releases is granted through a Release Request Form. This process ensures that all Innovation Release adopters are equipped to make the most of the Innovation Release experience.
Long-Term Support (LTS) Releases
Long-Term Support Releases (LTS) are published annually in June and are supported for 3 years after the initial release date. Designed to be a stable release with minimal changes, monthly LTS Maintenance Releases include only bug fixes, and no new features. If you have standardized on an LTS release, you should wait to upgrade until the next LTS release to access any new features. New features will not be added to previous LTS releases. LTS Maintenance Releases are also cumulative and can be installed at any time.
