You can restore instances to the original location or to a different location. By default, an instance is restored to the original hypervisor, using the same proxy as the backup.
Note
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure allows the creation of sub-compartments up to six levels deep. Beginning in Feature Release 11.26, you can back up and restore instances that are under those sub-compartments (as well as under the root compartment) for OCI regions.
Prerequisites
If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.
Start the Restore Wizard
-
From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.
The Overview page appears.
-
Click the VM groups tab.
The VM group page appears.
-
On the VM groups tab, in the row for the VM group, click the action button , and then click Restore.
The Select restore type page appears.
-
To convert the full virtual machine, select Full virtual machine.
The Full virtual machine page appears.
-
Select the instances to restore, and then click Restore.
The restore wizard appears.
In Place Restores
Specify the Restore Destination
-
For Type, select In place. This restores the instances to the original location.
-
For Access node, select Automatic or a different Oracle Cloud Infrastructure proxy from the list.
If you are restoring multiple instances, select Automatic to distribute the workload across the access nodes that are assigned for the destination hypervisor. First, the instances are assigned to access nodes that are in the same zone. Then, instances are assigned to access nodes that are in the same region. If no access nodes are available in the same zone or region, then the instances are assigned to access nodes using the round-robin method. The Automatic option is available for full restore and conversion operations from both streaming backups and IntelliSnap backup copies.

Click Next.

The Restore Options page appears.
Specify the Restore Options
-
Specify the following settings:
-
Power on VMs after restore: Automatically restart virtual machines after they are restored.
The power state of the virtual machine does not affect subsequent backups. If the virtual machine is powered on during backups, by default, the virtual machine is powered on again after the restore completes (unless you clear this check box).
-
Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists: Delete an existing virtual machine and replace it with the restored virtual machine.
Note
If an existing virtual machine with the same name exists on the destination host and you do not select Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists, the restore job fails.
-
Notify user on job completion: Receive an email notification that the restore is complete.

Specify the Virtual Machines and Settings
Note
An error message initially appears, indicating that you must configure the virtual machines (as described in this section).
-
Select the virtual machines to restore, and then click Edit.
The Configure restore options dialog box appears.
-
For Compartment, select the compartment for the destination region.
-
For Shapes, select an instance shape that is at or above the level of the source instances.
-
For Availability domain, select the availability domain on the destination region.
-
For Virtual cloud network, select a network for the destination instances.
-
For Subnet, select a network subnet for the destination instances.
-
For Staging bucket, select a staging bucket. If the backup instance image is not available in OCI tenancy, a temporary image is created at the staging bucket during restore.
-
For Create public IP, move this toggle to the right to make the instance accessible from the internet.
-
For Manage private IP (optional), move this toggle to the right and then enter a valid IP address, which will be assigned to the restored OCI instance (if available). If this option is not used, any available IP address will be automatically assigned to the restored OCI instance using DHCP.
-
For Instance tags, add new tags or delete existing tags. To add new tags, do the following:
-
Click the plus button .
The Instance tags dialog box appears.
-
Click the browse button and then find and select the new tags.
Note
-
For any given single-valued tag key, the values displayed during browse are only those that are present on resources in the tenancy for that tag key of that tag namespace.
-
An instance can only have one tag value for a given tag key of a given tag namespace. Attempting to add an other tag value for a tag key of a given tag namespace that is already present on the instance will result in an error.
