You can restore virtual machines to the original location or to a different location on the source hypervisor.
Prerequisites
If a passkey is configured for restores, you must have the passkey.
Start the Restore Wizard

From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtualization.
The Overview page appears.

On the VM groups tab, for the VM that you want to restore, click the action button (...) and then select Restore.
The Select restore type page appears.

Click Full virtual machine.
The Full virtual machine page appears.

To select a specific MediaAgent and/or source for the restore, in the upper-right area of the page, click the Settings button .
By default, the Commvault software automatically selects the MediaAgent and source as follows:

MediaAgent: The software uses the MediaAgent that performed the backup.
-
Source: By default, the software searches for the requested data in the primary copy. If the data is not found in the primary copy, the software selects a secondary or auxiliary copy.

Optionally, you can select an alternate view to restore backup data:

From the left-side of the page, you can click the drop down arror of the VM List.
Choose one of the following options:

VM List: Lets you identify which VM to restore.

Organizations: You can expand the list to view entities such as organizations, vapps, and catalogs.

Select the content to restore, and then click Restore.
The restore wizard appears.
Perform an In Place Restore

For Type, select In place.
-
For Access node, select Automatic, an access node, or an access node group.
If you are restoring multiple VMs, select Automatic to distribute the workload across the access nodes that are assigned for the destination hypervisor. First, the VMs are assigned to the access nodes that are in the same region. If no access nodes are available in the same region, the VMs are assigned to access nodes using the round-robin method.
If you select an access node group to restore VMs, the Commvault software distributes the workload across the access nodes that are available in the access node group.

Click Next.
The Virtual Machines page appears.

Select the VMs to restore.

Click Next.
The Restore Options page appears.

Specify the following settings:
-
Power on VMs after restore: Automatically restart VMs after they are restored.
The power state of the VM does not affect subsequent backups. If the VM is powered on during backups, by default, the VM is powered on again after the restore completes (unless you clear this check box).

Unconditionally overwrite if it already exists: Delete an existing VM and replace it with the restored VM.

Notify user on job completion: Receive an email notification that the restore is complete.

Click Next.
The Summary page appears.

Review the summary, and then click Submit to start the restore.
Perform an Out of Place Restore

For Type, select Out of place.
-
For Restore as, select the platform to restore the VMs to.
To restore to a different platform, see Cross-Hypervisor Restores.

For Destination, select the client to restore the VMs to.
-
For Access node, select Automatic, an access node, or an access node group.
If you are restoring multiple VMs, select Automatic to distribute the workload across the access nodes that are assigned for the destination hypervisor. First, the VMs are assigned to the access nodes that are in the same region. If no access nodes are available in the same region, the VMs are assigned to access nodes using the round-robin method.
If you select an access node group to restore VMs, the Commvault software distributes the workload across the access nodes that are available in the access node group.

Click Next.
The Virtual Machines page appears.

Select the VMs to restore.

Click Edit to configure the restore options.
The Configure restore options page appears. Specify the following:
-
Add a prefix to the VM name: If you are restoring multiple VMs, move the toggle key to the right and enter a prefix for the VM display names.

Add a sufix to the VM name: If you are restoring multiple VMs, move the toggle key to the right and enter a sufix for the VM display names.

VM display name: Enter the new display name for the virtual machine.

Organization: Displays the name of the organization for the source VM. You cannot change this value.
-
Org vDC: Select the organization vDC for the restored VM.

Restore vApp configuration: Move the toggle key to the right to restore the vApp network configuration, lease configuration, and virtual machine startup order of the source VM to the new vApp.

Restore as standalone VM: Move the toggle key to the right to restore as a standalone VM in the Org vDC. You do not have to specify the vApp name for the restored VM.

vApp name: Type the name of the new vApp you want to create.

VM storage policy: Select the storage policy for the restored VM.

Owner: Select or type the name of the user who owns the destination vApp.

Network settings: Configure the settings for the selected VM. You can click Add to add a new network interface, or select Edit or Delete to modify the existing network interfaces for the restored VM.

Source network: Select the source network, or select Any Network to map all network connections for the source VM to a different network for the restored VM.

Destination network: Select a network connection for the restored VM, or select No Connection to restore without a network connection.

Click Save.

Click Next.
The Restore Options page appears.

Specify the following settings:
