Back Up and Restore an Azure SQL Database Managed Instance

Commvault provides a solution that you can use to perform backup and restore operations on Azure SQL database managed instances. Only full backups are supported for Azure SQL Database Managed instances.

Important: Commvault software supports Azure for public clouds only. Sovereign clouds, such as in Germany or China, are not supported. For more information, go to Azure Regions Decision Guide on the Microsoft documentation website.

When restoring a database protected by Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) to an Azure SQL database managed instance, the corresponding certificate from the on-premises SQL Server needs to be migrated before the database restore operation.

Configuration

For information on the configuration steps, see Azure SQL Database Managed Instance Configuration.

Backups

Note

Backups for databases with service-managed transparent data encryption (TDE) are not supported. Databases with customer-managed TDE keys can still be protected.
