System Requirements for Virtual Server Agent with Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer)

The following requirements are for the Virtual Server Agent with Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer).

Versions of XenServers Supported

  • Citrix Hypervisor 8.2

  • Citrix XenServer 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.5, 7, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4, 7.6, 8.0, 8.2

  • XCP-ng 8.2

Proxy Operating System

For Citrix Xen, this proxy computer is always a virtual machine residing on the XenServer. As needed, you can deploy multiple proxies on a host to provide load distribution for backup operations.

The Virtual Server Agent can be installed on the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 (Standard, Datacenter) (64-bit only)

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Editions

Note

With XenServer 6.x, a VSA proxy for Xen can have a maximum of 16 disks attached, including any disks that belong to the proxy as well as VM disks that are included with a backup or restore operation. If the disk limit is exceeded during a backup operation, the operation fails.

Hardware Specifications

For information about hardware requirements for the Virtual Server Agent, see Hardware Specifications for Virtual Server Agent.

Note

If performing backups with the granular recovery option enabled, the location of the Job Results folder should contain additional space to accommodate at least 2 percent of the total amount of data being backed up.

Network Requirements

Port 443 and Port 80 are required for API requests.

Virtual Machine Operating Systems

All guest operating systems supported by XenServers.

Xen Services and Tools

The following services must be running on the proxy virtual machine prior to performing backups:

  • COM+ System Application

  • COM+ Event System

  • Remote Procedure Call (RPC)

  • Virtual Disk Service

  • Citrix Xen tools for Virtual Machines (latest available version)

Verify that the Virtualization State of backed up VMs is set to Optimized. This state is visible in the XenCenter console, on the General tab of the VMs.
