System Requirements for Virtual Server Agent with Oracle VM

Commvault supports Oracle VM Manager 3.3.1.x and later.

Only Oracle VM Server for x86 is supported.

Oracle PCA Backup

Commvault Virtual Server Agent operations for Oracle VM are supported on the Oracle Private Cloud Appliance (PCA) running Oracle VM 3.4.x.

Proxies

Deploy the Virtual Server Agent on a virtual machine in the Oracle VM Manager environment.

Only virtual machines that have the VSA installed can act as VSA proxies to perform backups and restores.

At least one proxy is needed.

If a VM resides on a shared repository, the proxy VM must reside on the same repository.

The following virtual machine types are supported for VSA proxies:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2022 Editions

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Editions

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Editions

  • Oracle Linux 6.x, 7.x, 8.x

  • RHEL 6.x, 7.x, 9.x

For Linux proxies, disable automatic activation of volumes to avoid issues with HotAdd operations during backup and recovery. For more information, see Disabling Automatic Activation of Volumes for a Linux Proxy.

Note

  • Both Windows and UNIX proxies must be based on OVM domain type Xen HVM PV drivers.

  • Windows proxy machines should be installed with Oracle VM Windows PV drivers version 2.3.2 or later.

User Accounts

The user account that is used for backups and restores must have administrative privileges for Oracle VM Manager, including the OVM Clone Operation privilege.

Port Requirements

In Oracle VM environments with firewalls, the VSA proxy must be able to communicate with Commvault entities such as the CommServe system and MediaAgents.

  • Ensure that CVD port 8400 on the VSA proxy is configured to accept incoming traffic from Commvault entities.

  • Port 7002 must be open for TCP communication between the VSA proxy and Oracle VM Manager.

Hardware Specifications

For information about hardware requirements for the Virtual Server Agent, see Hardware Specifications for Virtual Server Agent.
