Terminating Pending Backup Jobs When the Client Is Unreachable

A backup job goes into a pending status if the client is unreachable, for example, the client services are stopped. You can configure the Job Manager to automatically kill pending backup jobs for unreachable clients.

Procedure

  1. To the CommServe computer, add the JMMaxAllowedClientOfflineTimeDesktop additional setting as shown in the following table.

For instructions on adding additional settings from the CommCell Console, see Add or Modify an Additional Setting.

  2. Property

    Value

    Name

    JMMaxAllowedClientOfflineTimeDesktop

    Note

For laptop clients, the JMMaxAllowedClientOfflineTimeLaptop additional setting is enabled by default. When the laptop is unreachable for seven days, the pending backup job is committed. If no data was backed up, the backup job is automatically killed.

    Category

    CommServDB.GxGlobalParam

    Type

    INTEGER

    Value

The number of minutes the job should remain in a pending status. The value that you enter must be greater than the job retry interval.

For example, enter 90 if the backup job should remain in a pending status for 90 minutes before the Job Manager kills it.

  3. Restart the Commvault Job Manager service on the CommServe computer.

For information on restarting services, see Services - Advanced.
