Troubleshooting - Active Directory iDataAgent

Timeout Error

Symptom

The restore job for a directory server object or attribute stops with a time out error.

Solution

Increase the timeout value for page search APIs by creating the PageTimeout additional setting on the client computer.

Reset Password Prompt on Windows Server 2003

Symptom

When you restore attribute of an undeleted object on Windows Server 2003 and then try to log on to the client, a prompt appears to reset password.

Cause

When restoring the attributes of an undeleted object on Windows Server 2003, the system brings back the user account as enabled, but the operating system security marks it as disabled.

Solution

You must run the adldaptool.exe utility prior to backing up the Active Directory. The passwords will be restored and there will be no need to reset them. For more information, refer to Enabling Restore of Passwords.

Symptom

When an Active Directory object is deleted after backup, you might not be able to restore a read-only backward link attribute of the object even though the restore operation completes successfully.

Cause

When you restore the Active Directory object, the read-only backward link attribute of this object is not restored directly.

Solution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Restore the Active Directory object that contains the read-only backward link.

  2. Identify the forward link attribute of the Active Directory object and perform a separate restore for this forward link attribute.

For more information on how to identify the forward link attributes, see Linked Attributes.

Unable to Access AD Tombstone After a Restore Operation

Symptom

After a restore operation completes, you might notice that the Object SID is changed.

Cause

Object SID changes because administrator user cannot access the AD tombstone to restore the same SID object. New objects are created with the same name but different SID.

Resolution

To avoid the SID change, you must give correct permissions to the users who run the restore operation. For more information on additional permissions required, see Restoring Deleted Objects.
