Web Server: System Requirements

Verify that your environment meets the system requirements for the Web Server.

Operating System

Important

Use the most recent version of the operating system that is listed. The Commvault software fully supports the most recent version of an operating system, until the vendor ends support. More recent versions of the Commvault software might not install on operating systems that are not supported by the vendor anymore. For information about the support lifecycle of an operating system, contact the vendor.

For new installations of Commvault version 11.24 and later versions, Microsoft Windows Server 2012 is not supported. New installations of Commvault version 11.24 and later versions use MS SQL Server 2019, which requires a minimum of MS Windows Server 2016. Commvault upgrades are still supported.

Beginning with Commvault version 11.34 (Commvault Platform Release 2024), Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 will not be supported for Commvault upgrades because Microsoft has ended mainstream support for these Windows versions.

Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 clients will continue to be supported.

Restore Cache Folder

The restore cache folder requires 500 GB or more. The exact requirements might vary depending on the number of users that access the Web Console to download files or to perform Export and Legal Hold operations.

Hardware

The hardware requirements for Web Server installed on either physical or virtual machines is explained in Hardware Specifications for Web Server.

Note

  • The software installation requires 30 GB of disk space for the Microsoft SQL Server application and database and 20 GB of temp space on the drive where the temp directory resides.

  • The job results directory for the file system agent that is installed on the Web Server must have enough space to cache the search restores from users. The amount of space that is needed depends on the number of files that might be restored, the disk quota, and the retention period that is configured by the administrator.

  • In time, you might need to provide additional space (several GB) to allow for growth in the Web Server database. The size of the metadata depends on the search operations that are performed and quantity of data that is stored.

Additional Software (Windows Only)

  • If you use an Exchange agent, install Microsoft Outlook x64 Editions to support Exchange email recovery.

  • If you use the Domino Mailbox Archiver, install Notes Client Release 8 or higher to support Domino email recovery.

Compliance Search (Windows Only)

The operating system locale of the Web Server must be set to English (United States). If you change the system locale, you must restart the Web Server computer.

Outlook Add-In and ContentStore Email Viewer (Windows Only)

To use Web Server with the Outlook Add-In and Outlook Add-In with ContentStore Email Viewer, verify that your environment meets the following requirements:

  • When you deploy the Outlook Add-In with the ContentStore Email Viewer on more than 400 mailboxes, use a dedicated Web Server.

  • Microsoft Outlook with the most recent service pack. Also, to take advantage of Web Server capabilities from the Outlook Add-In, verify that the most recent service pack for Microsoft Outlook is installed on the client where the Outlook Add-In is installed.

  • Microsoft Outlook 2007 or a more recent version, or IBM Notes.

    Note

32-bit applications on a 64-bit server require a second 32-bit file system agent. For x64, use Microsoft Outlook 2010 or a more recent version.

  • To perform content indexing of Exchange and IBM Notes data, you must install Microsoft Outlook on the MediaAgent computer.

  • Upgrade all Exchange clients and Outlook Add-In users to Commvault Version 11.

Outlook Version Compatibility on the Web Server

One of the following Outlook versions must be installed on the Web Server client that the Command Center or Compliance Search points to so that the export feature works:

  • Office365 64-bit

  • Outlook 2010 64-bit

  • Outlook 2013 64-bit

  • Outlook 2016 64-bit

  • Outlook 2019 64-bit

Software That Is Automatically Installed

File System Agent

If not already installed, the Windows File System Agent or Linux File System Agent is installed. For more information, see the following:

Note

On Windows computers, to successfully restore NAS data and Domino emails on the web, install a 32-bit file system proxy instance on a 64-bit computer.

Database Engine

Microsoft SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition is automatically installed during the installation of the Web Server software.

For more information, see "Database Engine" in CommServe Server: System Requirements.

Internet Information Services (IIS)

IIS must be enabled on the computer that you install the Web Server on.

For information on configuring the server features and roles needed to enable IIS on a Windows server, see Configuring IIS Roles.

.NET Framework

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 is required and is automatically installed.

.NET Core Hosting Bundle

.NET Core Hosting Bundle 8.0.4 is required and is automatically installed (unless it is already installed).

Note

The .NET Core 8.0.* is supported for Commvault Platform Release 2024E and later releases.
