Services Fail to Start After OS Kernel Updates

VTL 2.0 services fail to start after applying OS updates on a Linux host. While regular OS updates are crucial for system security, they may cause startup issues when a new kernel minor revision is involved.

Problem

After an OS kernel update, especially a minor version upgrade, the VTL 2.0 services may fail to start. This occurs because the kernel update can revert the distribution’s FC (Fibre Channel) driver, which the VTL 2.0 services rely on to start properly.

Resolution

To fix this issue:

  • Reboot the system after the OS update.
  • If the services still do not start, perform a second reboot. This will restore the modified driver and allow the VTL 2.0 services to start correctly.
