Creating a Storage Policy

Storage policies act as a channel for backup and restore operations. The chief function of a storage policy is to map data from its original location to physical storage. When you create a storage policy, you can create the storage policy for a disk library, a cloud library, or a tape library.

Note

Upon upgrading to Release 11.38 or later, the Command Center will automatically create a container backup plan for existing data protection storage policies. The associated workloads of these storage policies will also be linked to the new backup plan, enabling users to manage storage policies and their workloads directly from the Command Center. The container backup plan itself will not include any data backup scheduling policies. After the conversion, existing workload associations with scheduling policies will remain unchanged, ensuring backups continue as scheduled.

Additionally, whenever a new storage policy is created in the CommCell console, a corresponding container backup plan is automatically generated in the Command Center, maintaining synchronization between storage policy settings and backup plans.
