How to Reduce Cloud Data Egress Costs Using Commvault Cloud Storage

Cloud service providers charge you for operations that move data out of their cloud storage. Enterprises with large amounts of data in cloud storage can incur significant egress costs.

The following are some ways to reduce egress costs using Commvault cloud storage:

  • Use on-premises storage (HyperScale or disk storage) for primary backup copies and move data for long term storage to cloud storage. For more information on developing a strategy for managing data on your cloud storage, see Cloud Storage Building Block Guide.

  • Do not use the life-cycle policies provided by the cloud service provider to move data to the archive storage tiers. Use a selective copy or DASH copy operation to make copies of the data in the archive storage tiers, preferably for long-term retention.

  • While making copies, if you have both the primary and secondary copies in the cloud, use Power Management with Cloud MediaAgent to perform the Auxiliary copy operation to the secondary copy. For more information, see Cloud MediaAgent Power Management.
