Configure backups for VMware VMs

To back up your VMware VMs, first create a hypervisor and a VM group with the VMs you want, then either start a backup yourself or let the next scheduled one run.

To configure backups for VMware VMs, do the following:

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Service catalog.

  2. In the Virtual machines tile, click Configure.

  3. Select VMware vCenter, and then click Next.

  4. On the Add hypervisor page, enter details about the hypervisor.

  5. Select existing credentials, or click the add button to create new credentials.

  6. For Access nodes, select Automatic.

Error message about failure to connect to the vCenter server

Enable the Skip SSL/TLS Certificate Verification toggle key. The error message appears because you are using a self-signed certificate for vCenter.

  7. Click Next.

  8. On the Add VM group page, click Add to create a rule to discover VMs based on criteria—such as datastore, power state, or tags—and you can select specific VMs.

  9. Select an existing backup plan, or click the add button to create a new backup plan.

  10. Click Next, and then complete the configuration wizard.

  11. To run a manual backup, go to the hypervisor, and then in the upper-right area of the page, click Backup.
