Commvault HyperScale X is a scale-out infrastructure solution that simplifies hybrid cloud data protection. It combines flexibility, scalability, and security to support diverse workloads across on-premises and cloud environments.
Key Features
- Flexible protection: Supports containers, virtual machines, databases, and other workloads.
- Scalable architecture: Expands seamlessly with growing data needs, on-premises or in the cloud.
- Built-in security: Provides trusted protection, including ransomware defense.
Storage Pool Management
HyperScale X software enables the creation of storage pools for protected data.
- Initial configuration: Requires three similarly configured nodes.
- Expansion: Storage pools can be scaled by adding individual nodes or multi-node increments.
- Optimized nodes: Each node is provisioned with resources to support all MediaAgent services, ensuring performance and resiliency.
- Unified management: Provides a single interface to create, monitor, and manage storage pools and HyperScale X nodes.
Platform Resiliency
The HyperScale X platform ensures high resiliency through architectural design and best practices:
- Distributed services: A distributed deduplication database and index cache enhance application-level resilience.
- Scale-out architecture: Built with standard servers that include redundant hardware components.
- Erasure coding (4+2):
- Each data block is divided into four data chunks and two parity chunks.
- Chunks are distributed across multiple nodes.
- Provides tolerance against multiple hardware failures.
- Best practices:
- Mirrored root disks.
- Separate subnets/VLANs for public data protection and private storage pool traffic.
- Bonded network interfaces to improve node-level resiliency.
Deployment Models
HyperScale X is available in two deployment models:
HyperScale X Appliance
- Delivered pre-imaged with HyperScale X software.
- Requires only site-specific configuration (such as networking) at the customer location.
- Commvault provides end-to-end support for both hardware and software.
HyperScale X Reference Architecture
- Delivered as reference architecture servers.
- HyperScale X software is installed on-site after server rack and stack.
- Commvault provides support for the software stack.
- Hardware support is provided directly by the server vendor.
