Configuring Metadata Replication for On-Premises Cleanroom Sites

You can configure your production CommServe server to prepare and replicate cleanroom recovery metadata to the air-gapped vault.

Before you begin

  • Verify that the HyperScale X nodes in the air-gapped vault are deployed and reachable from the production network during the replication window.

Download the OVA file and copy it to the production CommServe server

You must manually download the CommServe CIS-hardened OVA file from the store and then copy it to the folder CleanroomMetaData on the production CommServe server. This folder will be present at the same level as the DR directory.

Note

To view the path of the DR directory, go to Manage > Maintenance > DR backup (Daily). You will see the DR path on the Overview tab.

For example:

  • Linux

    • DR location: /opt/commvaultDR

    • OVA file location: /opt/CleanroomMetaData

  • Windows

    • DR location: E:\Commvault\CommvaultDR

    • OVA file location: E:\Commvault\CleanroomMetaData

When the production environment is upgraded to a newer release or maintenance pack, download the same or a higher-version OVA file and copy it to the same directory. Once the OVA file is in place, it is automatically included in the replication workflow.

Automatic metadata replication

The cleanroom recovery solution automatically prepares the bunker site for orchestration by managing all required file replication activities.

  • Metadata required for CommServe recovery, including CommServe OVA–related artifacts, is automatically identified and protected.

  • Replication policies are created, scheduled, and maintained by the cleanroom recovery workflow.

  • Updated metadata is periodically replicated from the production CommServe environment to the air-gapped HyperScale X vault without manual intervention.

No manual creation of replication groups or schedules is required.

Automatic software cache synchronization

The cleanroom recovery solution also automatically synchronizes the software cache with the air-gapped vault to ensure successful orchestration and recovery.

Required software packages and RPMs matching the production software level are automatically pushed to the HyperScale X nodes in the vault.

Software cache synchronization runs as part of the Airgap replication lifecycle and remains aligned with production updates.

During orchestration, the isolated CommServe server can be upgraded without requiring manual package installation.

Operational notes

  • Manual software cache sync jobs are not required and should not be configured.

  • The cleanroom recovery solution validates software availability during orchestration to prevent recovery failures caused by missing packages.

By automating replication policies and software cache synchronization, the cleanroom recovery solution reduces configuration effort, eliminates operational gaps, and ensures the air-gapped vault is always ready for recovery.
