You can implement a retention policy by setting the primary copy retention to 30 days and using extended retention to keep monthly full backups for 365 days and yearly full backups indefinitely. This approach allows long-term data preservation from a single copy, with the flexibility to retain specific jobs longer when required.
For secondary copies, if multiple backups reside in the same time period of the Extended Retention Rule, the following order of priority is used for job retention:
-
The backup is fully copied, but not disabled.
-
The backup is fully copied, but disabled.
-
The backup is marked as Partial or To be Copied (data for the job is available on the primary copy)
-
The backup is marked as Partial (data from the job is pruned, disabled, or Partial on the primary copy)
