Review the following Considerations before you use the immutable snapshot feature for HPE Alletra Storage MP / Primera / HPE Alletra 9000 Series / HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 Array.

The clients, access nodes, and Remote MediaAgents must be on Innovation Release 11.42 or later.

You can only set days-based retention on the snapshot copies. Extended retention is not supported.

The maximum allowed retention for HPE Alletra Storage MP / Primera / HPE Alletra 9000 Series / HPE Alletra Storage MP B10000 storage array is 1825 days.

The snapshot immutability is not inherited by mounts. Only the original snapshot is immutable.

If the snapshot primary copy is marked as immutable and a vault/replica copy exists, both copies will be marked as immutable. The retention periods for these copies can be different and independent of each other. However, it is also possible to make only the vault/replica copy immutable.

If the retention settings for the immutable snap copies are modified, existing snapshots will still adhere to their original retention, and only new snapshots will follow the new retention settings.

While enabling immutable snapshot (virtual lock), on either the Snap or the Replica Copy, verify the VVRetentionTimeMax value for the array. Use this value to set the retention for the copy.
