Enabling Software Compression on a Disk Storage Pool

You can enable software compression on a disk storage pool to reduce the amount of storage space used for storing backup data. This setting applies to all data written to the storage pool after compression is enabled.

When compression is disabled, it is turned off for all deduplication databases if deduplication is enabled, and for all primary storage policy copies associated with the storage if deduplication is not enabled.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Storage > Disk..

  2. From the list of storage pools, click the name of the disk storage.

    The storage page appears.

  3. On the Configuration tab, in the Compression section, move the Compression toggle key to the right.

  4. If the storage has any primary storage policy copies or deduplication databases with partial compression enabled, then the Fully enable compression dialog box appears.

  5. Click Yes to confirm and fully enable compression.
