Executing Workload Recovery

You can perform post-recovery operations and out-of-place restores from the isolated recovery environment (IRE) CommServe server after orchestrating an on-premises cleanroom recovery operation.

Logging into the recovery CommServe server

To interact with the recovered IRE CommServe server, you must log on using the dynamically created Recovery Manager account that you specified during the cleanroom orchestration process.

Understanding Recovery Manager limits

Following orchestration, the recovered CommServe server deploys in read-only mode to prevent unintended changes during cyber recovery testing from polluting metadata. A restricted administrative account is automatically created for the user. Permissions for this Recovery Manager account are strictly limited to browsing, restoring, installation, and essential administrative tasks.

Performing out-of-place restores from airgap storage

Because the recovered CommServe server only has access to isolated airgap storage, you must explicitly change the restore source to the airgap copy and perform an out-of-place restore.

Before you begin

You must be logged on to the recovery CommServe server using the Recovery Manager user credentials.

Procedure

  1. From the navigation pane, go to Protect > Virtual machines.

  2. Select the virtual machine that you want to restore, and then click Restore.

  3. On the restore page, click Change source.

  4. From the Restore from copy list, select Airgap Copy, and then click OK.

This forces the restore to pull from the airgap copy, which is the only active copy available to the recovery CommServe server.

  5. Select Out of place, and then click NEXT.

  6. From the Access node list, select the newly installed second instance node.

This routes the restore traffic through the access nodes running on the HyperScale X nodes.

  7. In the Change VM display name to box, enter a new name for the restored virtual machine.

This ensures that the restored virtual machine does not conflict with existing names and is easily identifiable.

  8. Click NEXT.

  9. Review the summary, and then click SUBMIT.
