Getting Started With Amazon RDS Using Snapshot-Based Backups

To protect Amazon RDS using snapshot-based backups, begin by selecting the appropriate deployment model — Use hosted infrastructure or Use your access nodes for backup — based on your architectural and operational requirements. Then verify that the necessary prerequisites and permissions are in place before configuring protection and validating the configuration with a test backup and restore.

  1. Applies only to MSP admin: Complete the Managed Service Provider Configuration for Amazon.

  2. Verify Permission Requirements for Amazon RDS Protection.

  3. Configure snapshot-based backups for Amazon RDS instances using hosted infrastructure.

  4. Perform a test backup and a restore.

    • Your first full backup is automatically scheduled based on the assigned backup plan. To perform a manual backup, see Backing Up an Instance Group.

    • After the backup operation is complete, perform a restore. For more information, see Restores.
