Install Commvault Cloud software on domain controllers

To create backups of your forest and recover servers, install the Commvault software on any domain controller that you intend to recover as part of the forest recovery runbook.

Important

Applies only to Recover to new VM full System State option: If Commvault Cloud software is installed on the domain controller from another instance of Commvault Cloud, you must uninstall the software before completing this step. The component that executes the “Create new domain controller VM from backup” recovery job requires its agent to be the first instance (for example, Instance001) on the client machine.

Start the installation wizard

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Protect > Active Directory.

    The Overview page appears.

  2. On the Forests tab, click the forest.

    The forest page appears.

  3. On the Content tab, in the list of domain controllers, select one or more servers, and click Configure agent.

    The Install software packages on your computer wizard appears.

Backup gateway page (applies to Commvault SaaS only)

  1. For Backup gateway, select your backup gateway.

  2. Click Next.

Backup plan page

  1. Select your backup plan.

  2. Click Next.

System credentials page

  1. From the Administrative account list, select an existing service account credential or add new credential that can connect to your domain controllers.

    Steps to add new credentials
    1. Click + beside the Administrative account list.

      The Add credential dialog box appears.

    2. Enter the following information:

      • In the Credential name box, enter the name of the credential.

      • In the User account box, enter the name of the user account.

      • In the Password box, enter the password.

      • In the Description box, enter the description of the credential.

    3. Click Save.

  2. Click Next.

Review page

  1. Review the summary.

  2. Click Submit.
