Mounting Snapshots of a Storage Array

To access the data backed up in the snapshot, you can mount the snapshot. The mount operation creates a read-only copy of the snapshot.

Caution

For Windows-based agents, select Protect snapshot during mount to ensure that the changes made to the snapshot while it is mounted are not retained when you unmount the snapshot. When you select this option, the snapshot is usable for future snapshot operations (restore, backup copy, etc.). If this option is disabled, changes made to the snapshot while it is mounted are retained after the snapshot is unmounted. As a result, you cannot use the snapshot for snap operations.

Configuration and support details

Array or workload Details
Pure Storage FlashArray Create the host in the array with a dummy LUN before attempting to mount on the proxy computer.
File servers The operating system of the mount host must be of the same or later version than the operating system of the source client computer.
Network share IntelliSnap for CIFS shares For Windows file system agents, GUI mount for file system with CIFS share is not supported.
Oracle, Oracle RAC, SAP Oracle, and Sybase databases You can mount any available snapshots on a MediaAgent. To mount Oracle ASM snapshots, the destination client must have a +ASM instance configured, in addition to having the Oracle agent and MediaAgent installed.
VMware vSphere VMs Mounting VMware vSphere snapshots is not supported because they are VMware-specific datastore snapshots that cannot be mounted as standalone volumes.

Procedure

  1. From the Command Center navigation pane, go to Manage > Infrastructure.

    The Infrastructure page appears.

  2. Click the Arrays tile.

    The Arrays page appears.

  3. In the Actions column, click the action button action_button, and then click List snapshots.

The Snapshots created during IntelliSnap operation page appears.

  4. Select one or more snapshots that you want to mount.

  5. In the upper-right area of the page, click Mount.

The Mount snapshot dialog box appears.

  6. In the Destination client box, type the destination client.

  7. In the Destination Path box, type any of the following:

    • For Oracle ASM snapshots on a MediaAgent, type the ASM diskgroup name to be used for the snapshot, for example, "+ASMSNAP".

    • On a Windows platform, type the share name for the agent.

    • For all other agents, type the destination path on the client.

    Note

For Nutanix Files CIFS shares, the share name is not required.

  8. If you do not want to save any changes made to the mounted snapshot after the snapshot is unmounted, move the Protect snapshot during mount toggle key to the right.

    Caution

If you do not select Protect snapshot during mount, the changes made to the snapshot when it is mounted will be retained after the snapshot is unmounted and the snapshot can no longer be used for restore.

  9. For FS agents, from the iSCSI Server list, select a server.

  10. Click Submit.
