Features and enhancements that Commvault wants to highlight in this innovation release are listed here, with a link to full documentation for the feature, if available.

July 2025

Cloud Workload Protection

Allow Linux Access Nodes to perform operations on Windows Dynamic Disks

This feature enables Linux access nodes to scan, mount, and perform file-level recovery on Windows Dynamic Disks using libldm library and ldmtool. Backup administrators benefit from directly accessing and managing Windows volumes on Linux, eliminating the need for separate Windows access nodes. This streamlines operations and enhances efficiency in the backup and recovery process.

Azure Express configuration for Azure Databases

Users can now use the Express Configuration Wizard to quickly and securely onboard Azure SQL Server databases for backup in Commvault Cloud.

Key Benefits of the Express Configuration Wizard:

  • Faster, Automated Setup: Automatically creates the required Azure application and role (CVBackupRole), eliminating manual steps and reducing configuration time.

  • Simplified Security Integration: Uses OAuth authentication and predefined permissions for a secure, hassle-free connection to your Azure environment.

The Custom Configuration Wizard remains available for advanced users who prefer manual control over app creation and role assignment.

Cross-Region Copy for Amazon DocumentDB Snapshots

Cross-region copy for Amazon DocumentDB manual snapshots allows you to duplicate your production cluster data for staging, development, or backup. This feature strengthens data protection and disaster recovery, with flexible region choices to help meet compliance and regulatory requirements.

Support for Amazon DynamoDB Local Secondary Index (LSI)

This feature adds support for backup and recovery of Amazon DynamoDB indexes (LSI), enabling table data and associated indexes to be protected and recoverable during both scheduled and on-demand backup operations. This allows customers to streamline their recovery workflows by replacing the time-consuming task of rebuilding indexes manually.

Support for Azure Elastic SAN on VMs

Commvault now offers support for Azure Elastic SAN on VMs, enabling users to protect and recover data stored on SAN-level shared storage within Azure. This feature enhances data protection capabilities for Azure VMs and AKS containers, providing peace of mind knowing that important data is safeguarded and can be easily recovered when needed.

Support for Incremental Backups using Amazon DynamoDB Streams

This feature enables scheduled incremental backups by using Amazon DynamoDB streams to capture incremental changes. Customers can implement cost-effective data protection for their Amazon DynamoDB tables.

Support for User Managed Service Account for Google Cloud VMs

The User Managed Service Account feature allows you to directly associate the necessary Google Cloud service account with the access node. This removes the need to share the private key with Commvault, offering a more secure option for customers with organizational policies restricting key sharing. It helps keep your sensitive Google Cloud VM data protected.

Commvault Cloud Platform

Auxiliary Copy Performance Reports in Command Center

This feature adds Auxiliary Copy Reports to the Command Center, providing Backup Administrators with key performance metrics for their auxiliary backup copies in a centralized location. This enables quick evaluation of replication operations to provide alignment with recovery objectives.

Commvault Security Solutions

Cyber resiliency dashboard

The Cyber Resilience Dashboard provides IT security teams with real-time insights to understand and enhance the organization's readiness-to-recover from cyber incidents involving Commvault-backed assets. With insights like an overall resilience index, backup SLA monitoring, storage performance analysis, and alert notifications, it enables proactive decision-making, quick issue identification, and demonstrates recovery capabilities efficiently.

Incremental Threat Scan Support for VMs

Incremental Threat Scan support for VMs allows IT administrators to schedule bulk scans on virtual machines, quickly identifying new threats by scanning only modified items since the last successful scan. This proactive and efficient approach ensures faster detection without significant performance impact, enabling response to security threats within the virtual environment.

On Prem Protection

Safeguarding Encryption Keys for DB2 Encrypted Databases

This feature enables administrators to safeguard encryption keys together with the DB2 database, providing end-to-end protection and enabling transparent restores. By streamlining the process and removing the need to locate and recover keys, it helps to minimize the overall recovery time objective (RTO).

Single Node Replica Set Enhancements for MongoDB

Enhancements to Commvault's support of MongoDB's single-node replica sets remove the need for extra settings with streamlined handling. Users are now notified of primary quiesce events. The feature also extends support for single-node replica sets within sharded cluster deployments, improving usability and scalability for end customers.

Streamlined Protection for DB2 Database in HADR Cluster Deployments

The feature provides streamlined database protection for DB2 databases in HADR cluster deployments with Virtual IP (VIP) configurations. This enables administrators to perform reliable backup operations without manual intervention after a failover.

VMware vSphere VM to Proxmox VE Conversion

The VMware vSphere to Proxmox VE conversion feature simplifies migrating virtual machines. This helps vSphere administrators move or recover VMs to Proxmox VE efficiently. It streamlines the transition, saving time and effort while supporting continuous operations for users adopting Proxmox VE.

SaaS Applications and Active Directory

AD object security now preserved in backups

We have enhanced our Active Directory backup capabilities to include the nTSecurityDescriptor attribute, so that object-level security settings—like explicit ACLs and the "Protect object from accidental deletion" flag—are fully captured and restored. This update helps safeguard critical permissions and maintain security integrity during recovery.
