Nutanix Prism Central: System Requirements

Deployment for Nutanix Prism Central AHV

You can install the Virtual Server Agent (VSA) on any virtual machine inside the Nutanix prism element (Nutanix cluster). The VSA proxy that resides inside the cluster will use the HotAdd data transfer mode and backups will be faster. At this time only hot add transport mode is supported. Hence access node has to be deployed on each cluster. You can deploy additional VSA proxies as needed for load balancing.

System Requirements

The Commvault software is supported with Nutanix Prism Central versions 7.3.0 and 7.5.

Install the Virtual Server Agent on virtual machines that meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of 100 GB of disk space

  • A minimum of 4 GB RAM, beyond the requirements of the operating system and running applications

You can deploy the Virtual Server Agent on VMs running the following operating systems:

  • Windows proxies

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2025 x64 Editions (Standard, DataCenter, and Core)

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2022 x64 Editions (Standard, DataCenter, and Core)

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2019 (Standard, Datacenter) (64-bit only) x64 Editions (Standard, DataCenter, and Core)

    • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 x64 Editions (Standard, DataCenter, and Core)

For Windows proxies, use the Windows diskpart command to disable automount and set the SAN policy to OfflineAll. If these features are enabled, they interfere with disk HotAdd operations that are performed as part of backup and restore operations.

    Note

For Windows virtual machines protected through Nutanix Prism Central, Nutanix Guest Tools must be installed to determine the Windows operating system type.

  • Linux proxies:

    • RHEL 8.x, or 9.x

    • Oracle Linux 8.x or 9.x

    • Rocky Linux 8.x or 9.x

    • Ubuntu 22 orĀ 24

    Note

For a machine that runs RHEL 8.x or 9.x, to install operating system packages that are required to enable automatic installation of Mono, register the machine with Red Hat.

Port Requirements

  • For application-consistent backups of user VMs, verify that user VMs can access Nutanix Prism Central controller VMs using the CVM Virtual IP (port 2074).

  • Verify that the CommServe computer, the MediaAgents, and the Virtual Server Agent can communicate with Nutanix Prism Central using Prism Element port 9440.

V4 API

For v4 APIs, backup operations rely on Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and do not require full superuser access. You must authenticate using either basic authentication or an API key, and be assigned an appropriate IAM role with the necessary permissions and scope for the specific v4 API endpoints being used. For more information, see the Nutanix Developer Portal.
