Protect Snowflake using Commvault

Commvault supports data protection for Snowflake databases, schemas, and tables. It supports long-term retention, helps meet regulatory compliance requirements, and ensures disaster recovery readiness, while complementing native Snowflake features such as Time Travel and Fail-safe.

Note

This feature is part of the Commvault Early Adopter program. The Commvault Early Adopter program engages customer feedback on specific features. Commvault works with select customers to discuss, plan, and help deploy the feature release, and to proactively assist with any issues. If you are interested in joining the Commvault Early Adopter program, contact earlyadopter@commvault.com.

Supported Cloud Platforms

  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Microsoft Azure

How it works

  • Commvault orchestrates backups directly from Snowflake to Commvault Air Gap Protect in Amazon or Azure.

  • Due to the changing nature of the Snowflake data, and as the data is copied directly deduplication enabled plans are not supported.

  • Each Snowflake account maps to an AI application in Commvault.

Backups

  • Tables without a primary key:

    • If a previous FULL backup exists, the table is skipped during incremental backups.

    • If a table is newly discovered during an incremental backup, a FULL backup is performed for that table.

  • Tables with a primary key:

    • If a previous FULL backup exists, incremental changes are captured using the existing Snowflake stream created during the prior FULL backup.

    • If a table is newly discovered during an incremental backup, a FULL backup is performed for that table.

For a list of supported Snowflake objects, see Supported Snowflake resources.

Restores

  • Database objects in place in the same Snowflake account.

  • Restore tables out of place to a different Snowflake account.
