Applies to only managed cloud deployments
The express configuration uses Commvault-hosted multi-tenant applications to connect to Microsoft Power BI. These applications use Federated Identity Credentials (FIC) for authentication and do not require app secrets or certificates.
This method provides a stronger security posture and is the recommended authentication approach.
Configure Azure Apps for Power BI Using Express Configuration

Go to the Service Catalog.

On the Power Platform tile, click Configure.

If this is your first time configuring Power BI:

Click Start trial.

Wait while Commvault activates the subscription and creates backup plans.

When the process is complete, click Close.
If you have already configured Power BI, continue to the configuration page.

Click Continue.

On the Region tab, select a storage region from the Storage region list, and then click Next.

On the Plan tab, select an existing backup plan or create a new one by clicking the + icon.
Create a Backup Plan

Enter a Plan name.

Select the Configure backups checkbox.

Select a storage location for the backup.

Specify how frequently backups should occur (hours, days, weeks, month, or years).

Specify the Retention period (days, weeks, month, years, or infinite).

(Optional) To specify Backups to retain, enable the option and define which backups to keep and their retention period.

On the Application tab:

Enter a name for the Power BI application.

Select Express configuration (recommended).

Click Sign in with Microsoft.
A Microsoft window displays all the permissions that are required to access the Azure app.
If the browser pop-up blocker blocks the Microsoft window, allow access to the Microsoft window.
Required Permissions and Licensing
To acquire the token, you must meet the following requirements:

You must be a Global Administrator.

You must have the Fabric Administrator role. Assign this role permanently to the user account.

You must have a valid Power BI Pro or Power BI Premium license.

In the Microsoft sign-in window:

Review the required permissions.
-
Allow pop-ups if the window is blocked.
-
Sign in using an account with the required administrative permissions.

Click Accept to grant permissions and close the pop-up.

Click Next.

Review the summary, and then click Close.
