Automatically Start a SQL Server Transaction Log Backup after a Successful Backup

You can start a Transaction Log backup automatically after a successful Full backup. Use this option when you want to back up logs immediately after a data backup, and allows you to do so without creating two scheduled jobs.

Procedure

1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > SQL Server > instance.

2. Right-click the subclient, and then click Backup.

   The Backup Options dialog box appears.

3. Select the backup type and job initiation:

   1. In the Backup Type section, select Full.

   2. In the Job Initiation section, specify whether to run the backup now or whether to schedule it.

      Note

      If you specify to schedule the backup, define the schedule.

4. Click Advanced.

   The Backup Options dialog box appears.

5. On the Data tab, select the Start Log Backup After Successful Backup check box.

6. Click OK.

7. Click OK.

You can track the progress of the job from the Job Controller. When the backup has completed, the Job Controller displays Completed. Note that the simultaneous running of file or file group backup jobs is not supported.
