Configuring Edge Drive Quota

The Edge Quota feature defines the amount of space that a user can use on their Edge Drive repository. The feature displays the overall space usage and also checks if the space usage exceeds the quota defined for the user. (see Edge Quota and Usage Calculations).

CommCell administrators or users with User Management permissions can configure Edge Drive quotas for users and user groups.

You can also set the Edge quota from a Laptop Endpoint Plan in the Command Center. For instructions, see Creating an Endpoint Plan.

Before You Begin

Before an external group can supply a quota, it must exist on a domain controller that the CommServe instance can reach, and be associated to a CommCell User Group.

  1. In the CommCell Browser, expand Security > Domains and look for the domain.

  2. If the domain does not appear under Domains, perform the steps given in Adding a Domain Controller for Active Directory.

  3. Expand domain and click External Groups. The External Groups tab appears.

  4. Add the group by performing the steps given in Adding an External Group.

Procedure

You can set the quota either directly for the user or as an inheritance from an external or CommCell user group.

Setting a User-Level Quota

Important

The CommCell Users tab shows only those users who have actually logged on to the CommServe, not all the users defined on the external domain controller.

To set the Edge Drive quota for an individual user, follow these steps:

  1. In the CommCell Console, expand Security, and then click CommCell Users.

  2. On the CommCell Users tab, right-click the user_name, and then click Properties.

The User Properties dialog box opens.

  3. On the General tab, clear the Inherit User Group Edge Drive Quota Settings check box, and then select the Enforce File System Quota check box.

  4. In the Disable data protection when Edge Drive quota usage exceeds box, accept the default setting or enter a quota in gigabytes.

  5. Click OK.

Setting a Group-Level Quota

You can set quotas for external or CommCell user groups. An Edge Drive user who is a member of a group having a quota inherits the quota from the group. For more information on how quota is calculated for a user, see Quota Calculation.

  1. In the CommCell Console, navigate to the user group that you want to configure.

    • To access a CommCell user group, expand Security > CommCell User Groups.

    • To access an external user group, expand Security > Domains > domain_name > External Groups.

  2. Right-click the group_name, and then click Properties.

The properties dialog box is displayed.

  3. On the General tab, select the Enforce Edge Drive Quota check box.

  4. In the Disable data protection when Edge Drive quota usage exceeds box, accept the default setting or enter a quota in gigabytes.

  5. Click OK.
