Configuring PST Ingestion for an Exchange User Mailbox

To configure PST ingestion for a Microsoft Exchange user mailbox, create a PST ingestion association for the user mailbox subclient.

Before You Begin

  • Save the PST file on the Exchange access node or another computer where the Exchange access node has access to the share.

  • In the folder where you plan to save the PST file, create another folder with the SMTP address of the Exchange user mailbox that is being backed up in the same v2 Exchange agent user mailbox, and then move the PST file inside this folder.

  • Share the folder that contains the PST file with every user who needs to access it and grant those users both read and write permissions.

  • Add an Exchange Server service account with full permissions to the folder that contains the PST file.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Console, in the CommCell Browser go to Client Computers > client > agent > User Mailbox.

  2. At the bottom of the right pane, click the PST Ingestion tab.

  3. Right-click inside the right pane and select New PST Ingestion Association.

The New PST Ingestion Association wizard appears.

  4. In the PST Ingestion Association Name box, type a name for the PST ingestion association.

  5. Configure a folder location or file system backup for PST ingestion:

    • Select By folder location, and then configure the location:

      1. Under the Folder List segment, click Add.

      2. In the Enter Path dialog box, type a valid network path or a local path and then click Ok.

You can add a local path only when a single access node is configured.

You can add multiple network or local paths.

    • Select By file system backup, and then select the backup content:

      1. In the File System Entities list, expand the file system entities.

      2. Select the agent, backup set, or subclient you want to use for PST ingestion.

  6. Click Next.

  7. To set the PST ownership priority, under PST Owner Management, select a rule, and then beside Decide PST owner based on the rules below, use the arrows to move the rule up and down in the priority.

  8. In the If none of the rules above match, then assign the PST to this user box, type a user name in the format domain/username.

  9. Under PST Folder Management, configure the following options:

    • To store PSTs separately from the mailbox data, select Ingest PSTs under this folder, and then type a folder name.

    • To store PSTs together, select Merge folder hierarchy from all PST.

    • To store the data of each PST separately from other PSTs, select Keep separate folder hierarchy for each PST.

  10. Click Finish.
