Creating Informix Subclients

Commvault uses Informix ON-Bar utility to perform backup and restore operations. Full backups or level-0 backups include all the storage spaces (dbspaces, blobspaces, and sbspaces), logical-log files and critical administrative files like onconfig, sqlhosts, ixbar and oncfg files.

ON-Bar never backs up offline storage spaces, temporary dbspaces, or temporary sbspaces.

Incremental backup operation backs up all the changes in the storage spaces since the last backup and performs a level-0 backup of used logical log files.

To schedule an incremental backup operation to back up changes since the last level-0 backup, save the incremental level as 1 in the Subclient Properties dialog box. To schedule an incremental backup operation to back up changes since the last level-1 backup, save the incremental level as 2 in the Subclient Properties dialog box.

Before You Begin

Create an Informix Instance.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Informix.

  2. Right-click the instance, point to All Tasks, and then click Create Subclient.

The Create New Subclient dialog box appears.

  3. In the General tab, in the Subclient name box, type a name for the subclient.

  4. On the Content tab, select the content to include in backup operations.

    1. In the Backup Mode area, select the Entire Instance Backup option.

    2. To include the configuration file, select the Back up ONCONFIG File check box.

    3. To include the emergency boot file, select the Back up Emergency Boot File (ixbar) check box.

  5. On the Storage Device tab, click the Data Storage Policy tab, and then, from the Data Storage Policy list, select the storage policy that you want to use.

  6. Click OK.

Note

If the selected storage policy is associated with a server backup plan, after saving the subclient, only the storage is assigned to the subclient. Schedule and plan will not be associated with the subclient.
