Creating Multiple Instances Under an Existing Oracle RAC Client

You can add multiple instances for an Oracle RAC client.

You must follow these rules when you add a new Oracle RAC instance:

  • Use the SYS login as the Connect string to connect to the database.

  • Do not include "/" when you select the Use SQL Connect option because there are multiple nodes.

If you want to use an Oracle Single Client Access Name (SCAN) as the Connect string for an instance, set the Connect string to: username/password@scan-host name:port/servicename.

Example: The physical host name is lx64rac-1.unixdb.lab and the node-vip name is lx64rac-1-vip.unixdb.lab.

You can use the Oracle EZCONNECT in the connect string in the format below while configuring RAC instances in the CommCell Console. For Oracle 12c configurations, you can also use sysbackup in the connect string.

  • sys/ password @scan-hostname:port/servicename

  • sysbackup/ password @scan-hostname:port/servicename

The connect string can be authenticated from Oracle Internet Directory (OID) and LDAP servers.
