To decommission a laptop client, you must do the following:
-
Delete the agent from the CommCell Browser.
-
Delete the client from CommCell Browser.
Deleting an Agent
You must uninstall or deconfigure the agent software from the client computer before deleting it from CommCell Browser. After you delete the client software, you can either leave the corresponding data intact for an appropriate action or you can remove the data immediately. If you choose to remove the data immediately, you must delete the agent from the CommCell Browser. If you delete the agent, all of the agent's data is irretrievably lost.
-
You cannot delete an agent while operations for that agent are running.
-
From the CommCell Browser, navigate to Client Computers > client**.
-
Right-click the agent**, and then click Delete.
-
A confirmation message appears with the following message:
This operation will permanently delete the data backed up from this level and it cannot be restored. -
Click OK to continue with the deletion operation or click No to cancel the deletion.
Deleting a Client
To delete a client computer:
-
From the CommCell Browser, right-click the icon of the client computer that you want to delete, click All Tasks and then click Delete from the short-cut menu.
If the Delete command is not available, then you have not successfully deleted the base client software (if relevant) from the client computer.
-
A confirmation message appears. Click Yes to delete the client computer or click No to cancel the deletion.
If you click Yes, the backup data that corresponds to the selected client computer is deleted. Consequently, you will not be able to browse or restore this data. If you click Yes, the client computer icon is removed from the view.
Important: When you delete a client, the CommServe computer sends a message to the client computer so that it will stop sending messages to the CommServe computer.
