Deduplication DB Disk Space Utilization Report

The Deduplication DB Disk Space Utilization report provides visibility into disk space usage for deduplication databases (DDBs). This report is a critical capacity management tool for deduplication databases.

It helps administrators monitor how much disk space is consumed by DDBs, how much free space remains on the DDB paths, and whether adequate capacity is available to support ongoing and future backup operations.

The report includes trend analysis, storage pool–level summaries, and detailed DDB path information.

Typical Use Cases

Use Case Description
Capacity Monitoring Track available free space to ensure that deduplication database (DDB) paths do not run out of capacity.
Pruning Validation Correlate sudden drops in used disk space with pruning or cleanup operations to verify that space reclamation is working as expected.
Risk Identification Identify DDB paths with low free space percentages or an upcoming Date to Be Full to proactively address capacity risks.
Operational Planning Determine when to add storage, expand storage pools, or redistribute DDBs across MediaAgents to balance capacity and performance.

Best Practices

  • Maintain sufficient free space on all DDB paths to ensure optimal deduplication performance.
  • Investigate DDB paths with consistently low Free Space (%).
  • Monitor the Date to Be Full column to proactively plan capacity expansion.
  • Combine this report with the Deduplication DB Performance and Status report to correlate disk usage with performance metrics.
