When Secure Erase is configured on a client, files will only be delete when the client is offline, or has no connectivity with the CommServe host for a specified number of days. However, if you want to delete data on a client sooner, you can select an option to delete files the next time the client is online. If this option is selected when a client is currently online, the files will be deleted immediately.
Caution
Secure Erase permanently deletes data on a client computer (data shredding) by performing a DOE-compliant 3-pass secure erase. Use caution with Secure Erase, as improper use can result in irreversible loss of data.
Procedure
-
Open the Data Loss Prevention settings for the client computer. For more information, see Accessing Data Loss Prevention Settings.
-
Click Secure Erase, and then select Securely erase selected documents now or as soon as the client comes back online.
-
Optionally, you can add, modify, or delete paths in the Recursively erase the following contents box. For more information, see Secure Erase Settings.
-
Click OK.
The paths in the Recursively erase the following contents box will be deleted the next time the client is online (connected to the CommServe host). If the client is currently online, the files will be deleted immediately.
