Disabling Silo on a Storage Policy Copy

Deprecated

The archive data for cold storage on tape using deduplication (Silo) feature is deprecated.
See End-of-Life, Deprecated and Extended Support - Features for comprehensive information on deprecated features.

When silo copy is created for a deduplicated storage policy copy, by default, deduplicated data is copied to the tape without rehydrating the data.

You can disable silo operations by disabling silo option on the source copy associated with the silo copy.

Before You Begin

Before disabling silo, ensure that you have met the following requirement:

  • No jobs are available on the active deduplication database associated with deduplicated storage policy copy or global deduplication policy.

For existing deduplicated storage policy copy or global deduplication policy with data, seal the deduplication database (DDB). See Sealing the Deduplication Database for instructions.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies>Storage Policies > storage_policy or global_deduplication_policy.

  2. Right-click the storage policy copy associated with silo copy and click Properties.

  3. In the Copy Properties dialog box, on the Deduplication tab, click the Settings tab.

  4. To disable silo, clear the Enable backup of deduplicated data (Silo) check box.

  5. Click OK.

Notes:

  • When silo operation is disabled:

  • If silo option is re-enabled (only when no data is written to the new DDB):

    • the silo disk cleanup for data on the active DDB will automatically occur on the disk and data on the sealed DDB will still follow deduplication pruning.

    • the data of future backups will follow silo pruning.
