Licensing Server in a High Availability Disaster Recovery Environment

In multi-CommCell environments configured with both CommServe LiveSync for High Availability Disaster Recovery and a licensing server, some additional configuration might be required after a failover operation so that the licensing server continues to function in the failover environment.

Based on the type of implementation in your environment, you might have to configure the Metrics Server URL setting:

  • The private Metrics Reporting Server is installed on the same host as the Commserve computer: The CVCloud database is included in the CommServe computer replication set and after the failover completes successfully, you must manually change the Metrics Server URL to the host name of the new active CommServe node.

  • The private Metrics Reporting Server is installed on a different host than the Commserve computer: Failover does not include the CVCloud database in the replication operation, which means that after a failover, you do not have to update the Metrics Server URL. Additionally, the parent and child licensing server communication remains intact.

  • Multiple remote private metrics servers with one license server: This licensing server configuration is supported only if there is a global Metrics Reporting Server that also acts as the licensing server, therefore this implementation is not affected by failover operations.

Configuring the Licensing Server URLs after a Failover

If the private Metrics Reporting Server is installed on the same host as the CommServe computer, after a failover, you must manually update the Metrics Server URL for each CommServe computer.

Before You Begin

Perform a failover:

Procedure

  1. On the CommServe computer, on the CommCell Console ribbon, click Control Panel.

  2. In the Control Panel dialog box, under Monitoring, click Private Metrics Reporting.

The Private Metrics Reporting dialog box appears.

  3. In the Metrics Server URL box, type the URL for the failover CommServe computer.

    For example: http://cs_failover_licensing_server .domain.com:80/

Where cs_failover_licensing_server is the host name of the failover CommServe computer. You must include the forward slash (/) at the end of the URL, otherwise the URL link does not work.
