Manually Discovering PostgreSQL Instances

You can manually discover PostgreSQL instances that you want to back up and restore. This one-time operation creates an instance in the CommCell Console for each instance that you discover.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client.

  2. Right-click PostgreSQL, point to All Tasks, and then click Discover Instance.

  3. Click Yes.

A newly-discovered instance appears in the CommCell Console.

  4. If there is no default file system storage policy, follow these steps to set the default storage policy:

    1. Right-click the newly-discovered instance, and then click Properties.

The Properties of PostgreSQL Server dialog box appears.

    2. To select the storage policies for data and log backups, on the Log Backup tab, select a storage policy for log backup operations from the list, and then click OK.

    3. Expand instance > BackupSet. Right-click the default subclient, and then click Properties. On the Storage Device tab, select the Data Storage Policy check box. Click OK.

  5. Set the user account for the PostgreSQL application at the instance level.
