Mount Operation Information

Depending on the storage array, protocol, agent, or a combination of those, the mount operation might not be supported or have limitations.

Storage Arrays

For the following storage arrays, take the following information into account to mount snapshots.

Pure Storage FlashArray

For Pure Storage FlashArray arrays, create the host in the array with a dummy LUN before attempting to mount on the proxy computer.

Oracle ZFS (Deprecated)

If the proxy server supports both the iSCSI protocol and the and Fibre Channel (FC) HBA protocol, use the FC HBA protocol and make sure to have the following:

  • The FC HBA protocol on the proxy server is zoned to the Oracle ZFS array. In this case, if the source LUN is connected via iSCSI, associate it with target group “All Targets” on the array. If the source LUN is connected via FC, the existing FC target association is sufficient.

    Note

After a mount operation on the proxy server, a snapshot has the same properties as its LUN has, for example, the target group associated to the source LUN will also be associated to the snapshot.

Agents

For the following agents, take the following information into account when mounting snapshots.

File System Agents

For UNIX file system agents and Windows file system agents, the operating system of the mount host must be of the same or later version than the operating system of the source client computer.

Network Share IntelliSnap for CIFS Shares

For Windows file system agents, GUI mount for file system with CIFS share is not supported.

Oracle, Oracle RAC, SAP Oracle, and Sybase Database Agents

You can mount any available snapshots on a MediaAgent.

To mount Oracle ASM snapshots, the destination client must have a +ASM instance configured in addition to having the Oracle agent and MediaAgent installed.

Virtual Server Agent

For Virtual Server Agent (VSA), mount snapshots from the backup set or subclient level. Mounting snapshots from the storage policy is not supported.

For the VMware agent, mounting multiple snapshots of the same volume at the same time is not supported.

Protocols

Virtual Server Agent for VMware

For VMware agents, by default, the snapshot is exposed to the first Host Bus Adapter (HBA) on the ESX Server. To expose the snapshot to a specific HBA, configure the sPortInfo additional setting.

If required, you can configure the niSCSIEnable additional settings, for IntelliSnap backups to always try mount using the iSCSI method. If this additional setting is not configured, IntelliSnap backup tries to mount using the Fibre Channel method first. To add or edit an additional setting, follow the steps in Adding or Modifying Additional Settings from the CommCell Console.
