Oracle RAC Multi Instance Snap Optimization FAQs

Can I revert from snap, if the snap and clone are present on the same device?

If the IntelliSnap backup and Clone exist for the same source device in the case of EMC Symmetrix, the revert operation from IntelliSnap backup will work. However, the revert from clone will not work until all the snap sessions are terminated.

Can I perform a Log only IntelliSnap backup in a multiple instances environment using a shared storage on a client?

Does IntelliSnap support backing up Raw Device Map (RDM) Disks for an Oracle database configured in a virtual machine?

Yes.

IntelliSnap backup of Raw Device Map (RDM) disks is supported on Oracle databases that are configured in virtual machines in physical compatibility mode, provided that one of the following conditions are met

  • the client computer uses iSCSI initiator to mount snapshots

  • the physical proxy server uses Fibre Channel to mount snapshots

IntelliSnap backup of RDM disks is not supported for Hitachi Vantara arrays using HDvM engine.

What do I do when I get the Oracle ORA-00353:log corruption near block error?

This can happen when there are frequent online redo log switches.

The subclient needs to have the Use Rman for Log Backup option enabled. Right-click the subclient and select Properties. On the Subclient Properties dialog box, navigate to the Logs Backup tab and select the Use Rman for Log Backup check box. Retry the operation.

How do I determine the space for control file backups that are stored in the datafile location?

If you backed up control files to the datafile location before you perform an IntelliSnap backup operation, you must have twice the control file size amount of free space.

If you also perform an IntelliSnap backup operation on the archive log file volume, you must also have free space that equals the size of the archive log volume.

Are there additional considerations if I use an NFS mount point?

Yes. For more information, see NFS Mount Point Considerations.
