Performing Point-in-time Restores

Applies to: All mailboxes

Note

This configuration is available in the Command Center. For more information see, Restoring an Exchange Online Mailbox to a Point in Time.

Before You Begin

The Exchange Mailbox Agent index server must be backed up on a weekly basis.

Procedure

The following is a high-level description of the steps that you perform for point-in-time restores. For more details, refer to the specific procedures.

  1. Perform an Out-Of-Place restore of the index server backup to a different client.

  2. Using the client that you restored the index server to, create an alternate index server.

  3. On the Exchange Mailbox client, perform a browse at the backupset level or the subclient level, and then from the list, select the alternate index server.

For more information, see Browsing and Restoring Messages Using the Exchange Mailbox Agent.

  4. Perform restores.

For more information see, Browsing and Restoring Messages Using the Exchange Mailbox Agent.

    Note

The items that appear in the Destination clients list depend on where you want to restore the messages:

    • When you selectTo Mailbox, the available destination clients are the Exchange Mailbox clients that are in the CommCell environment.

    • When you selectTo PST File orTo Disk, the available destination clients are the physical clients that are in the CommCell environment.

Result

The Exchange data is recovered to the last successful index server backup time.
