To restore archived messages in the personal storage table (.pst) files, ensure that you meet the following conditions.
MediaAgent
The MediaAgent that is associated with the storage policy must have the following installed on it:
-
The 64-bit version of the agent.
-
Microsoft Outlook 2007, 2010, or 2013 (64-bit version).
Notes
Use only the traditional Windows Installer-based (MSI) method to install Microsoft Office. Other methods, such as Click-to-Run, are not supported.
If you use Exchange 2016, you must install Microsoft Outlook 2013 SP1 or later service packs.
Other Considerations for the MediaAgent
If you located the agent on an off-host proxy computer, do the following:
-
Make sure that the proxy computer is added to the same domain where the Exchange server is located.
-
Install Microsoft Outlook 2007 or later on the off-host proxy computer so that the software drivers that are required for the agent to function in an off-host proxy configuration are installed.
-
If the proxy and the MediaAgent are on separate clients, the service account must be the local administrator on the MediaAgent.
Exchange Server Environment
To restore PST files back to the Exchange server, you must:
-
Have an Microsoft Outlook profile.
-
Enter an Exchange server name into the Exchange Server Name box in the agent's Properties dialog box.
Non-Exchange Server Environment
You can archive PST files without an Exchange Server environment (out-of-place restore). If you are using PST archiving only:
-
Do the following in the agent's Properties dialog box:
-
Even though you do not need an Outlook profile, you must enter some value into the Profile Name box and into the Mailbox Name box. You can use dummy values.
-
Leave the Exchange Server Name box blank.
-
-
The service account must be a user who can query the Active Directory.
