Promoting a Secondary Snapshot Copy to Default

If a storage policy has multiple secondary snapshot copies, the default secondary snapshot copy cannot be deleted until one of the non-default secondary snapshot copies is promoted to default copy.

If there are no non-default copies (mirror or vault/replica), you can delete the default copies without copy promotion.

Before You Begin

Verify that the snapshot copy that you want to promote has the required storage virtual machine (SVM) mappings configured.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Policies > Storage Policies > storage policy.

  2. Right-click the snapshot copy, and then click Properties.

The Snap copy properties dialog box appears.

  3. In the Copy Information area, do one of the following:

    • If you are promoting a mirror copy, then select the Default Mirror check box.

    • If you are promoting a vault/replica copy, then select the Default Vault/Replica check box.

      Tip

If this is the default copy, the check box is grayed out.

    A Warning dialog box appears.

  4. Click OK.

What To Do Next

The promotion of a vault copy or a replica copy does not change the subclient association on the promoted copy. Verify the subclient associations before starting auxiliary copy jobs.
