By default, the database is recovered along with the restore. However, you can also restore the data and then recover the database to a later point-in-time.
Recovering a Database to the Current Time
You can recover a database to the current time either to the original host or to a different host. Use the following steps to recover a database to the current time:

From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > RAC client.

Right-click the instance, then go to All Tasks > Browse and Restore.
The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

Select Latest Backup, and then click the View Content button.
-
Select the database, and then click the Recover All Selected button.
The Oracle Restore Options dialog box appears.
-
Depending on the type of restore to be run, click Restore in place or Restore out of place, and then click Next.
The Oracle In Place Restore Options or Oracle Out of Place Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the General tab, clear the Restore Data check box, and then click the Advanced button.
The Advanced Restore Options dialog box appears.
-
On the Recover tab, click Current Time.
-
Click OK.
-
Click OK.
Recovering a Database to a Point-in-Time
You can apply archived logs and recover a database to a previous point-in-time where it is consistent and stable. Use the following steps to recover a database to a point-in-time:

From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > RAC client.

Right-click the instance, then go to All Tasks > Browse and Restore.
The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

Select Latest Backup, and then click the View Content button.
-
Select the database, and then click the Recover All Selected button.
The Oracle Restore Options dialog box appears.
-
Depending on the type of restore to be run, click Restore in place or Restore out of place, and then click Next.
The Oracle In Place Restore Options or Oracle Out of Place Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the General tab, clear the Restore Data check box and click the Advanced button.
The Advanced Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the Recover tab, select the Point-in-Time option and enter the date and time.
The time selected is specific to the CommServe time zone.

On the Options tab, from the Reset Logs list, select Yes.

From the Time Zone list, select the time zone of the client computer. This is required if the time zone is different for the client and CommServe.

Click OK.

Click OK.
Recovering a Database Using the System Change Number
The latest backup job's completion time is passed to the recover operation. This is the Completion Time on the General tab of the Job Details dialog box, which you can see by right-clicking the job and selecting View Job Details.
Use the following steps to recover a database using the SCN:

From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > RAC client.

Right-click the instance, then go to All Tasks > Browse and Restore.
The Browse and Restore Options dialog box appears.

Select Latest Backup, and then click the View Content button.
-
Select the database, and then click the Recover All Selected button.
The Oracle Restore Options dialog box appears.
-
Depending on the type of restore to be run, click Restore in place or Restore out of place, and then click Next.
The Oracle In Place Restore Options or Oracle Out of Place Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the General tab, clear the Restore Data check box, and then click the Advanced button.
The Advanced Restore Options dialog box appears.

On the Recover tab, click the SCN button and then enter the System Change Number.

On the Options tab, from the Reset Logs list, select Yes.

Click OK.

Click OK.
Recovering a Database Using the Latest Backup Time
The latest backup job's completion time is passed to the recover operation. This is the Completion Time on the General tab of the Job Details dialog box, which you can see by right-clicking the job and selecting View Job Details.

Recovering a Database Using the Latest SCN Number
You can recover the database to the last existing SCN number in the latest backup. This is the lowest Next SCN number between all the threads in the General tab of the Job Details dialog box, which you can see by right-clicking the job and selecting View Job Details.
Use the following steps to recover a database to the last backup time.

From the CommCell Browser, go to Client Computers > RAC client.

Right-click the instance, then go to All Tasks > Browse and Restore.

Select Latest Backup, and then click the View Content button.

Select the database, and then click the Recover All Selected button.
