Recovering IBM i Configuration Objects

You can recover configuration objects that include:

  • Line descriptions

  • Controller descriptions

  • Device descriptions

  • Mode descriptions

  • Network interface descriptions

  • Class-of-service descriptions

  • Network server descriptions

  • NetBIOS descriptions

  • Connection lists

  • Configuration lists

  • Token-ring adaptor data

  • Hardware resource data.

Best Practice: Do not restore the security or configuration objects to a specific library, directory, or folder.

Before You Begin

  1. Create a subclient.

    • To restore the entire system configuration, create a subclient and select *ALL (Subclient Properties dialog box, Content tab, Subclient Content).

    • To restore a particular configuration object, select any combination of objects (Subclient Properties dialog box, Content tab, Subclient Content).

  2. Perform a backup on the subclient.

Procedure

  1. From the CommCell Browser, expand Client Computers > client > Proxy Client File System > defaultBackupSet.

  2. Right-click the subclient and click Browse and Restore.

  3. On the Browse and Restore Options dialog box, select Latest Backup and then click View Content.

  4. Select the data that you want to restore and click Recover All Selected.

    The Restore Options dialog box appears.

  5. On the General tab, select the source computer from the Destination Client list.

  6. Click OK
