Reference Copy - Online Help

Create Reference Copy Client

Use this dialog box to create a placeholder client for reference copy. A placeholder client is one that exists logically, not physically, for the purpose of creating reference copies.

You can create a placeholder client for either File System-based or Exchange-based agents.

Client Name

Enter a name for the placeholder client that will be used for reference copy. The name cannot contain spaces.

Configure Agents

Select the Agents you want the placeholder client to hold:

  • For File System, you may select UNIX File System or Windows File System.

  • For Exchange, you may select Exchange Compliance Archiver or Exchange Mailbox (Classic).

Reference Copy Contents (Content)

Use this dialog box to manage the options for selecting content to include in the reference copy subclient. The system provides several filtering options for specifying the subclient content, these options influence the behavior of the subclient content in the subsequent backup operations. These settings will only impact supported agents residing on the client.

Backup Start Time

Allows entering a time from which the backed up data satisfying the applied filters will be used.

Backup End Time

Allows selecting and entering a time up to which the backed up data satisfying the applied filters will be used.

Add

Allows creating a filter (for filtering the backed up data of other clients) which will be used as subclient content for the reference copy.

Content Name

Allows specifying a name for the filter.

Content Criteria

Click More to select the available filters that will be applied to the backups from other clients.

File System Filters

File name

Enables viewing files with specified name pattern, e.g. *.htm.

Stubbed Object (Reference Copy Subclient)

Enables you to copy archived files from the source subclient.

Deleted Object (Reference Copy Subclient)

Enables you to copy deleted files from the source subclient.

Modified Date

Enables viewing the file as per specified modification date.

This allows you to specify the Start Time and/or End Time of the backup job that ran on the associated client/client group.

File Size

Enables filtering files based on a specific size range in KB, MB or GB.

The following operators can be used to specify the file size:

  • greater than

  • less than

  • greater than equal to

  • less than equal to

Contains

Enables filtering content with specific wordings. The results differ with different combinations of backup and content indexing jobs that ran on the client.

  • If Content Indexing is enabled and at least one Content Indexing jobs has been run after the last backups job, this filter retrieves more precise results as the results are retrieved from the content indexed data.

  • If Content Indexing is enabled and other filters are used along with this filter, the results are retrieved from the combination of what got backed up and content indexed.

  • If Content Indexing is not enabled, this filter works like File Name filter.

  • If Content Indexing is not enabled and both Contains and File Name filters are used, then the Contains filter is ignored.
