Registering a Remote CommCell Environment that is Present in a Different Network

To register a remote CommCell environment in a different network, complete the following steps:

  1. On the local CommCell environment, complete the following steps:

    1. Create a network gateway computer.

For instructions, see Setting up the Commvault Network Gateway.

    2. Create a dummy client computer.

      • The operating system of the client computer should be same as that of the remote CommServe computer.

      • In the Client Name box and the Host Name box, enter name and host name of the client computer of the remote CommCell environment respectively.

You can find name and host name in the General tab of the Client Computer Properties dialog box of the client computer.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer.

    3. Delete the agent software for the client computer.

For instructions, see Deleting an Agent.

    4. Create a client computer group with the name Gateway, and then add the network gateway computer that you created in step a above to the group.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

    5. Create a client computer group with the name Local CS, and then add the client computer of the local CommCell environment to the group.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

    6. Create a client computer group with the name Remote CS, and then add the dummy client computer that you created in step b above.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

    7. On the remote CommServe computer, copy the text of the temporary certificate to the Base\certificates\export.txt file, and then save the changes.

    8. Create a network topology with Topology Type: Network Gateway, Server: Local CS, Network gateways: Gateway, Infrastructure machines: Remote CS.

For instructions, see Setting Up Network Gateway Connections Using a Predefined Network Topology.

    9. For the Local CS and Remote CS client computer group, set the value for Default Outgoing Tunnel Protocol to Regular (HTTP).

For instructions, see Procedure 1: Setting the Tunnel Connection Protocol at the Client/Client Group Level in Configuring Outgoing Tunnel Connections.

    10. To push the firewall configuration, from the CommCell Browser, right-click the network topology that you created, click Push Network Configuration, and then click OK.

  2. On the remote CommCell environment, complete the following steps:

    1. Create a dummy client computer. The Host name, Server Name, and OS Type should be similar to the network gateway computer that you created on the local CommCell in step 1a.

For instructions, see Setting up the Commvault Network Gateway.

    2. Create a dummy client computer.

      • The operating system of the client computer should be same as that of the local CommServe computer.

      • In the Client Name box and the Host Name box, enter name and host name of the client computer of the local CommCell environment.

You can find name and host name in the General tab of the Client Computer Properties dialog box of the client computer.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer.

    3. Delete the agent software for the client computer.

For instructions, see Deleting an Agent.

    4. Create a client computer group with the name Gateway, and then add the client computer that you created in step a above to the group.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

    5. Create a client computer group with the name Local CS, and then add the client computer that you created in step b above to the group.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

    6. Create a client computer group with the name Remote CS, and then add the client computer of the remote CommCell environment to the group.

For instructions, see Creating a Client Computer Group.

    7. On the local CommServe computer, copy the text of the temporary certificate to the Base\certificates\export.txt file, and then save the changes.

    8. Create a network topology with Topology Type: Network Gateway, Server: Remote CS, Network gateways: Gateway, Infrastructure machines: Local CS.

  3. On the local Commcell environment, complete the following steps:

    1. Register the remote CommCell environment.

In the Register remote CommCell dialog box, from the Select CommServe client located across a firewall list, select the client computer that you created on the local CommCell environment in step 1b.

For instructions, see Registering a Remote CommCell.

    2. After successful registration, verify that the name and the hostname of the client computer that you created is correct. If not, update the correct information.

For instructions, see Viewing or Updating a Client Computer.

    3. Verify that the remote CommCell environment is online.

For instructions, see Verifying CommCell Connectivity.

  4. On the remote CommCell environment, complete the following steps:

    1. Verify that the name and the hostname of the client computer that you created is correct. If not, update the correct information.
